Emergency Guide: Quick Help When You Need It

We’ve all been there: orthodontic issues always seem to pop up at the worst possible time - whether it’s over the weekend, during a public holiday, or late in the evening.

Our SOS Emergency Page is designed to help you stay calm during uncertain moments. Many of the initial discomforts that can occur after getting braces or brackets usually disappear quite quickly.

If you or your child are experiencing an issue that isn't listed here, please give us a call. We will do our absolute best to help you as quickly as possible.

Did you know? With our innovative Dental Monitoring system, we precisely track your oral health from afar - detecting potential dental emergencies before they even happen.

Your advantage: You benefit from maximum peace of mind and timely treatment, all while saving valuable time with more flexible and fewer in-office visits.

Removable Braces & Aligners

"If a metal bracket has broken off, or if your appliance is broken or even lost, a prompt appointment is urgentto maintain the treatment progress already achieved.

If your appliance is causing increasing pressure or no longer fits at all, this is often a sign of insufficient wear time.

Brackets

After your fixed braces are placed, you may experience temporary sensitivity or even some discomfort, especially during the first few days. Sticking to a soft diet can help ease this issue..

In cases of severe pain, taking a mild, age-appropriate pain reliever may be considered. Please consult your treating orthodontist or pediatrician beforehand.

To prevent potential issues as your treatment progresses, you should avoid chewing hard foods, such as nuts.Raw fruits and vegetables, however, are healthy - just make sure to cut them into small pieces and chew them with your back teeth.

If you experience irritation on the inside of your cheeks or your tongue, please use the orthodontic waxprovided by our team.

Poor oral hygiene leads to lost brackets! Should a bracket come loose or a wire become bent, please contact our office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.

Retainer

Even though the retainer is very flat and delicate, your tongue may still need a few days to adjust to it at first.

In rare cases, food particles - such as small seeds - can get stuck on or under the retainer. Please never attempt to remove them with a toothpick or any other hard object. The shear forces generated during such an attempt can cause one or more of the bonded joints to break. Simply brushing with a toothbrush or even just rinsing with some water will easily solve the problem.

Should a bond come loose despite these precautions, please schedule a repair appointment with our practice immediately. Here, too, the rule applies: do not attempt to tamper with or bend any parts of the retainer. Doing so often makes a complete replacement of the retainer unavoidable.

Orthodontic Relapse

During orthodontic treatment, sometimes very extensive tooth movements are performed. Since the majority of these movements occur against tissue resistance, a corresponding tendency to relapse results once the desired treatment outcome is achieved.

To prevent such relapses, custom retention appliances will be planned for you. If these are removable, they require your consistent cooperation. As a rule, it is necessary to continue wearing these retention appliances even after treatment is complete - however, wearing them only at night is often sufficient. Discontinuing use on your own can lead to relapses.

If a relapse has occurred, please schedule a follow-up appointment immediately so we can discuss a potential solution together.

Schedule your personal appointment at our practice. We look forward to meeting you.
